Getting started with cider is easier than you think! 

Hello everyone, sharing about beer is also quite a lot, today I will share my first experience of making cider. Thanks to my experience in brewing beer, it’s not too difficult for me to start making cider 🙂

My formula:

  • 4 liters apple juice concentrate (everyone can use pure apple juice)

  • Men Cider

  • Water

Ingredients need to be prepared much less than brewing beer and making cider is not too complicated. In this recipe, I divided the sugar solution into 2 parts, one part is normal fermentation and one part I added dry hopping.

? Basic steps of making cider include: boiling sugar and concentrate – cooling – main fermentation – secondary fermentation and bottle filling.

Now let’s start!

Ingredients prepared: Apple juice concentrate, Cider yeast, Hop and equipment: Cooking pot, Fermentation bucket, Thermometer, Hydrometer.

Cleaning chemical, I use Chemipro Oxi

Boil 23 liters of water, boiling time is about 30-40 minutes

Start pouring apple juice concentrate into the pot

Turn off the heat and stir until mixture dissolved

Cool down to pitching temperature. This step I do quite simply, put the pot in a large bucket, add water and ice then check the temperature with a thermometer regularly.

The temperature gets in the range of 18 – 21 degrees Celsius, we can sprinkle the yeast

Sprinkle with yeast, close the lid, install the airlock and store the fermenter at 18-21 degree C. I put it in the air-conditioned room. The primary fermentation time is 7 days.

After the main fermentation is complete, the cider will be filled into bottles, and washing the bottle is an important step to ensure that the bottle is clean and not contaminated.

I do second fermentation in the bottle too, one carbonation drop per bottle…. very convenient, or you can add table sugar, about 1 teaspoon for 1 500ml bottle. Then filling cider into bottles.

After the bottle is filled, I continue to keep it cool for about 3 weeks

I added hop for the other half

And this is my Cider result. Cider has a light yellow color, slightly sour, fragrant with apple, adding ice is very delicious, the alcohol level is not too high. Enjoy!

The result is a batch of light yellow color cider, rich in apple flavor, slightly sour, sweet aftertaste, adding ice to drink in this weather is always the best. Take a break from the epidemic and the football season is coming soon, let’s try making cider and share with your family!
